The Mobile Suit

The “SUIT” part of “Mobile SUIT” stands for space Utility Instruments Tactical, meaning “a mobile weapon which can be used for a variety of tactical roles in space.” However, until the outbreak of the Principality’s new weapons from this vague description. Even their wildest dreams, they never imagined that their space fleets would be utterly by 20-meter-tall humanoid manned weapons.

At the time, the only precedents for one-man mobile weapons were things like conventional space fighters. The appearance of the MS, which would be inconceivable given traditional technology and weapon systems, was an immense shock to the federation Force

How was it, then, that the Principality of Zeon chose the MS as its new main weapon? The major reason was the epoch-making discovery of Minovsky particle.

At the time, the basic tactic of the Federation Forces was to quickly detect the enemy using high-powered radar, then shoot them down at extrmne long range with warship cannons and guided missiles. However, this newly discover clemently particle had the unexpected effect of disrupting radar functions. The Principality Forces look notice of this and, by scattering Minovsky particles in high enough densities to render radar and radar-guided weapons ineffective, created a situation of visual-range close wombat in which plains had to rely on heir naked eyes. Just as in World War ll, in the 20th century of the old calendar, nimble small craft were able to approach as close as possible to the Federation fleets and then use their mobility to destroy enemy ships.

With the introduction of the MS, Prineipality, despite its numerical inferiority in terms of national power and fleet strength, finally had a fighting chance against the mighty Earth Federation Forces.

But way was it necessary for MS to be humanoid in from? To understand this, we must review the history of humanoid worker machines which began in the A.D. era. and the advantages of the humanoid form.

Minovsky Particle

The Minovsky particle is an clemently particle discovered by Dr. T.Y. Minovsky. It has near-zero rest mass, and positively and negatively charged Minovsky particle have the special characteristic of aligning themselves into a cubic lattice which, with the application of a magnetic field, forms an invisible force field. This technology, which is now indispensable for our daily life, was originally developed with the goal of making thermonuclear reactors more compact, by using this force field to shield the reactor core during unclear fusion. Taking note of this research, the then-Republic of Zeon invited Dr. Minovsky to Side 3 to help create artificial solar lighting for its closed-type space colonies. Later, This technology was applied to produce everything from compact fusion reactors to mega parcel cannons (high-output beam cannabis) and Minovsky craft (a kind of anti-gravity flotation device).

During the development of the compact fusion reactor, researchers were further surprised to dissever that the force, field leaking from the reactor core prevented the propagation of electromagnetic waves at anything other than visual wavelengths, as well as inducing malfunctions in electronic systems. As a result, high-powered radar and super-LSI-class integrated circuits were useless in areas where these particles had been scattered in sufficient density, and long-range warfare with weapons like guided missiles was rendered impossible. Next-generation weapons like the MS, and the new tactics visual-range close combat, were results of this new discovery in particle physics.
